Our School

Plympton St. Maurice Primary School is a non-denominational Community School for children 4 - 11 years old, standing in spacious and beautiful grounds on the edge of an historic stannary town and conservation area.

LibraryThe school has a well-stocked library enhanced with bright displays reflecting characters from children’s favourite stories. We have a multi-purpose hall and seven well-equipped classrooms which have recently been extensively resourced for literacy and numeracy lessons.

The purpose-built computer suite ensures all children develop necessary technology skills to enable them to access a curriculum pertinent to the 21 st Century. The school is committed to ensuring the suite is kept up-to-date with the latest technological developments. Every classroom has an Interactive White Board.

Our outside teaching areas ensure practical and hands-on learning in science and geography. Visits and trips to Plymouth and the local area enrich children’s understanding of the past and bring history to life.

Plympton indoor swimming pool which is within walking distance of the school is used by Years 4 and 5 during the summer term. A successful and well established Breakfast Club and Tea Time Club is available for a very small charge at the beginning and end of each school day. The school offers an extensive range of extra-curricular activities which reflect the interests of the children.

Last term we offered Judo, cross stitch, athletics, French, Football, Animation and Drama, these can change on a termly basis.

We are fortunate to have an Ofsted approved Childcare Centre on the school grounds, providing high quality care for babies through to pre-school aged children.

The children elect representatives for their School Council at the beginning of every academic year. They are an important voice for the children in many school matters. Recently the council were involved in the designing of playground areas and finding out how the children feel about their teaching and learning in their school.
